CHAIRMAN of Warri South local government area, Hon. Michael Tidi has said the Warri Port will be made functional as one of the moves to restore the glory of the oil-rich city.
Hon. Tidi made the disclosure, Friday in Warri when Onyeisi Ndi Igbo, Delta South and Central District, HRM Sir Peter Chukwu paid him a courtesy call.
According to the Chairman, “The Warri Port will be made functional again, we will have the Warri Economic Summit in the next few weeks, we need to know where we went wrong and proffer ways forward.”
“We are going to implement the resolutions because, Warri is strategically positioned not to depend solely on allocations to execute projects,” Hon. Tidi said, adding, “our functions goes beyond payment of salaries, we have introduced electronic revenue drive and we want the cooperation of all to achieve results.”
He described the Ibo community as very important in the socio-economic development of Warri and urged the Onyeisi Ndi Igbo to instil in his subjects, the need to key into the programmes of his administration.
“I hold the Ibos in high esteem, the Ibos are industrious when it comes to business, I have a lot of them serving in different committees, you are great supporters of our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and we appreciate the roles you played during the local government elections,” the Council Boss said, disclosing, “we are delineating the entire local government area for ease in the collection of revenue electronically, please, help me to educate your people to key into the programmes of the Council, especially, in the area of revenue collection for us to have enough resources to work for our people.”
Earlier, HRM Chukwu had told the Chairman that they were in his office to congratulate him for successful assumption of duty, stating, “you are not doing badly, we are here to tell you that we are in support of your administration and you should carry us along in your government.”
“We have different markets and you can take an Ibo man as CLO, PA or whatever because, we desire a smooth government, we are ready to support you to make you achieve greater heights, I came to Warri in 1980, with this position, think of posterity, bridge the gap between you and the governed, we will like to point at your achievements by the time you live office,” he said.
