FLOODING: DTHA COMMENDS OKOWA’S HOLISTIC APPROACH

The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Works has rained praises on the State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for his holistic approach in tackling flooding problem in Asaba metropolis, saying that the House was ready to partner with the State Government in ensuring the completion of the Storm Water Drainage Project.

This was made known by the House Committee’s Chairman, Hon. (Chief) Evance Ochuko Ivwurie during the inspection of the Storm Water Drainage Project recently.

According to the Lawmaker; “We are thanking the Delta State Governor for embarking on this laudable drainage project. This is one of the major problems that has confronted the State Government, even though people fail to realise that it is a natural phenomenon.”

“As a House, we are supporting the Governor’s efforts in the rechannelling process of controlling flood erosion in the state because we do not want anything that will stop this project because it will create a disaster for the state”, he added.

According to him also; “This project work is one of the major request of World Bank, the International Community is very interested in erosion control because if not taken care of will lead to death and destruction and want to appeal to the Commissioner for Works to keep the Committee abreast with information on a monthly basis regarding the Storm Water Drainage Project until it’s completion.”

“We are happy that the State Government has taken the bull by the horn in tackling the problem of flood erosion in the state holistically. I want to appeal to the Contractor handling the project not to derail by delaying the project”, the Committee Chairman stated.

Hon. Ivwurie emphasised that “We are ready to partner with the State Government in ensuring that this Storm Water Drainage Projects is completed and deliver to the state to the glory of God.”

Areas inspected are, Gold Club Area, Ralph Nwechei Road, DBS Road, Nnebisi Road by FMC road and Agric. Road.
