Dafinone Commends Okpe Monarch for stabilizing community
Chairman, Sapele Okpe community Land Trust, Chief Ede Dafinone and members recently played host to the outgone and incoming caretaker administration to celebrate peaceful transition of power.
Chief Ede Dafinone who spoke at his residence while hosting both old and new administration thanked Okpe monarch HRM, the Orodje of Okpe kingdom for stabilizing the community.
According to him, the wisdom of monarchy cannot be underplayed as His Majesty sees and receives more report about the community from where he sees more than his subjects.
“Today we have cause to celebrate a transition, movement from onecaretaker committee to another, a peaceful transition. When we gathered here to celebrate last year, the old committee members despite the invitation, refused to come. Today marks the exact opposite of that” He said
Dafinone commended the outgone Committe members for their hard work during their tenure of office, saying though it was not an easy year but they battled through.
He recalled that they were unable to properly take over immediately and the process according to him, lasted for five to six before they started.
Chief Dafinone gave credit to the outgone committee members for their hard work in helping to stabilize the community which he said enabled the peaceful handover of power.
He mentioned that the new constituted caretaker committee have received a smooth handover, noting that it does not mean the job will be easy, appealing to them to work together and identify themselves with the progress of the community.
Dafinone lamented that they have gone through a period of nearly ten years where their progress as a community have been limited by disagreement from within as he urged all to embrace one another in other to forge ahead
“That i may be recognized is not enough, if we all are recognized then I am a champion. But where are we today? Little arguments has slow down our progress” our enemies are smiling, lets put all that behind us and move forward as a community” He added
He called on the new committee to identify with the mission of Sapele Okpe community, broker peace and also welcome our brothers who are willing to come back to the fold, urging the people of Sapele Okpe community to give the committee the needed support for them to succeed.
“Anybody willing to join the fold must be welcome, those that are not willing to join drag them back into the fold. We are all children of Sapele Okpe community. The argument and disagreements are distractions and it must stop in this administration” He said.
According to him, the new committee need to work towards the progress of the community and let Sapele stand tall again as the proud community of powerful, affluence, wealthy people that will contribute to the development of Delta State and Nigeria.
“I am told that on the scale of lawyers, Judges, doctors. Sapele is very far behind, that is not the legacy we want to live for our children.
It is by laying foundation that we can get it right” Chief Dafinone noted.
He mentioned that the country is moving into a phrase of growth where those who are sleepy will wake to see that others have gone ahead adding that the revival of Nigeria that is about to start, the people of Sapele will not went be left behind.
Dafinone therefore called on all to join hands to grow as one people with one destiny and equally work for the progress of the community.
The new committee Chairman of the community, Mr Patrick Akamovba in his words thanked the people, promising that his administration will address the burning issue in the community.
He said that the people of Sapele Okpe must preach a new message of oneness and his job according to him is to see that all Okpe sons and daughters are well represented.
Mr Akamovba solicited for the cooperation of Okpe kingdom, saying that though he will definitely step on many toes but his administration must correct the wrongs in the community.
