PDP chieftain advocate death penalty for corrupt govt officials
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Chief Dave Okorare has advocated death penalty for corrupt government officials, calling on the National Assembly to formulate laws that will bring corruption to an end.
Okorare who spoke to our correspondent recently in Warri said the only way to fight corruption in the country is for both the legislature, the judiciary and the executive to come out with strong policies and laws that help bring the monster to an end.
He said that to get it right, both the Legislative and the executive arms of government must do all they can to ensure that those caught stealing the country’s wealth are made to face the full wrath of the law.
He said, “I am calling on the National Assembly to step up efforts in formulating laws that will eradicate or bring this monster called corruption that is killing our country to an end.
“I am advocating death penalty or 25 years imprisonment without the option of fine.
“Both the executive and the legislature have not been able to reach a serious solution to the fight against corruption. Both have been cosmetic and paying lips service in tackling this monster.
“Though I know this won’t be easy to achieve because of the involvement of the key players in our politics and their cronies. But if we must get it right we just have to face it once and for all and the time is now.”
