Delta State Chairman, Private Sector Parcipant (PSP) Mr Lucky Adjekuko has said that some Deltans do not know to keep their environment clean, stressing that the state is not a dirty state.
Mr Adjekuko who spoke to our correspondent in Warri recently said that the state government under the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has done a lot to ensure that the environment is kept clean.
He said the Delta State government is partnering with the PSP on how to properly collect and dispose waste in the state, calling on all Deltans to come out in their numbers to participate in the next coming environmental exercise.
Mr Adjekuko commended Governor Okowa for bringing back the SEEFOR programme which has helped in keeping the roads clean and keep some of the youths out of the labour market.
He said, “Delta State is not a dirty place because if they look into the programme of the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in terms of road infrastructures and human capital developmental since this administration came on board, you will discover that he has brought back the SEEFOR programme. You can see that the major roads are clean, from Asaba to Warri, Uvwie, Sapele, Ughelli, Agbor and other local governments areas. You will testify that major roads across the state being kept clean on a daily basis because of the SMART agenda.
“I will advice residents in the state to abide by the rules of the state, the agency, the waste management board and the local government authorities and the PSP operators that covers their areas because in most street residents refuse to key into the PSP business, a body responsible for carting away refuse from your resident, hotels, eatries houses, companies, and private. So I want to appeal to Deltans to make sure they key into PSP operations in the twenty five local government areas in the state.
Adjekuko added that the state government under the administration of Governor Okowa has done very for the past three, windows endorsing the governor for a second term in office.
“As the State Chairman of PSP in Delta, we are giving the Governor full support and we have endorse him for second tenure and we are calling on Deltans to vote for him come 2019. Just imagine if a man can do all these in three years, when you give him eight years, what will come out in terms of infrastructures, human capital development and others will be enormous. He has encouraged the youths in the areas of STEP, YAGEP, GEEP programmes and he is the youths to become young entrepreneurs, as they are becoming their own bosses,”
Adjekuko advised residents in the state not to give their waste to wheel barrow and cart pushers who do not dispose the waste properly as they cannot get to the approved dump sites.
He said, “Some residents living in difficult areas are reluctant to patronize the PSP for their collection and disposal. My advice is that by giving your waste to cart pusher and wheelbarrow pushers, you are encouraging littering of waste in the environment at the same time not encouraging the government, PSP. I am very sure that there is no major city that has not been zoned. For example in Asaba you have over 30 zones, in Uvwie over 25 zones, Warri 30 zones, Agbor 15 zones, Udu same, Ughelli also 15 and Sapele 15 zones. Before now there is a programme called SEEFOR, I must praise the SEEFOR job done in the past for making PSP know what is called disposing your waste in the right way and also shower encomium to the State Government for initiating SEEFOR what the PSP needs is cooperation from Deltans so that the work will move fast.
“I want everyone in the state to ensure that their environment is clean. They should patronize the PSP, abide by the rules of the State Governor, Commissioner for Environment, Waste Management Board in the various local government you are living so that you can have a clean environment and don’t forget with a clean environment, you breathe good air, you stay away from diseases like cholera etc.”
