*** DECRIES “CRIMINAL” NEGLECT OF NIGER DELTA REGION
A Niger Delta based oil monitoring group, the Niger Delta Indigenous Movement For Radical Change ( NDIMRC ) has hailed the Government of the United States of America for granting a Visa to the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ), Atiku Abubakar, describing the development as a good omen.
A family source disclosed to TheCable on Saturday and confirmed that the former vice-president has left Nigeria for the UK, where he will spend some time before flying to the US.
TheCable also understands that former president Olusegun Obasanjo played a “critical” role in getting the American government to issue the visa to his former deputy with whom he was estranged for almost 15 years.
The trip marks another chapter in the controversy that has rocked the former vice-president for over a decade.
Atiku, who is widely travelled, has not been to the US in 13 years, intially fueling speculations that he might be avoiding possible arrest or prosecution.
His political opponents had used his absence from the US not just to taunt but to discredit him.
In a swift reaction to the issuance of US Visa to Atiku Abubakar, NDIMRC said it was a welcome development.
In a Press Statement signed by it President, Nelly Emma, Secretary, John Sailor, and Public Relations Officer, Stanley Mukoro, the group said that the granting of US Visa to the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party was a sign of good things to come for Nigeria.
According to the Statement; “Our attention has been drawn to the recent granting of US Visa to Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. We are excited about this and we want to sincerely commend the Government of the United States of America led by Donald Trump for giving Atiku Abubakar a clean bill of health to enter the United States (US )”.
“We want to see the granting of the US Visa to the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar as his complete endorsement by the US. We want to implore US to fully throw it’s support for Atiku Abubakar for we know that if he wins the 2019 Presidential elections, things will be better for the people of the Niger Delta region in particular and Nigerians in general. At the moment, our economy is in shambles with so many frustrated jobless Nigerians on the streets. There seems to be no hope for the masses in the Country. But we know that with Atiku Abubakar at the helm of affairs in the country, life will be better for the people and this is why we are glad that the US government granted him Visa”, the group said.
The group added that; “US has a lot to benefit from the Nigerian government under Atiku Abubakar and we plead that US should focus attention on the forthcoming general elections in the country to ensure that it is free, fair and credible. US must insist on acceptable elections next year in Nigeria.”
“We want to use this medium to appeal to the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar to take the issue of the Niger Delta region seriously if he wins the Presidential elections next year. The oil rich region has been criminally neglected for too long and we implore Atiku Abubakar to do the needful for the region when elected”, the group stated.
Making case for Indigenous oil servicing companies in the region, the group appealed to the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party to make things better for them when voted into power, saying that; “Things are not going on well with our indigenous oil servicing companies that have built capacity for the oil and gas industry and have invested billions of Dollars on equipment over the years and at the moment, the banks are on their neck and we want Atiku Abubakar to turn things around for these Indigenous oil servicing companies when elected as President.
