2019: DON’T SUPPORT OKOWA RE-ELECTION FOR PERSONAL GAINS — MULADE TELLS IJAW LEADERS

As the 2019 general elections draws closer, a Niger Delta based human and environmental rights activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade has urged Ijaw political leaders to collectively work toward successful re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Barrister Kingsley Otuaro for the interest of the Ijaws in Delta State.
Comrade Mulade who made the call in Koko, Warri North local Government Area of Delta State, charged Ijaw political leaders to put Ijaw communities development interest above personal gain, noting that Ijaw leaders can synergize with the state government to come up with programmes centered on the needs of the Ijaw people due to the peculiarity of their terrain and their huge contributions to the revenue of the State.
He lamented that it has become a norm to seek political appointment and contracts rather than projecting issues that will end economic marginalization and environmental pollution affecting the Ijaw people and the communities and further urged Ijaws leaders to support the reelection of Governor Okowa for the purpose of addressing the age-long problems of underdevelopment in Delta Ijaw communities by successive administrations.
He said “The Ijaw communities have needs that spans beyond constructing community walkways and roads without links with other communities. Those in position of leadership should protect Ijaw interest and the need to draw the attention of the Governor to the provision of bridges, schools, electricity and healthcare for our people “.
According to him also;”It is shameful and regrettable that some supposed selfless Ijaw leaders are basking in the euphoria of celebrating projects on paper. The time has come to grow beyond singing praises over publicized projects yet to be executed. Rather than seeking contracts, appointment and party relevance, Ijaw leaders should think of having a polytechnic, public university and other state sponsored higher institutions”.
“It is sad to observe that most of our respected political leaders struggle for personal gains using Ijaw contributions to state as a platform”, he added.
