A frontline Non Governmental Organisation advocating for Peace, healthy environment and justice, the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ has embarked on a massive sensitization to compliment the efforts of government in curbing and preventing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Abuja FCT and Delta State.
The National Coordinator of CEPEJ, Comrade Mulade Sheriff who led the sanitation and distribution excise at Abuja, said the NGO is carrying out the activities to Compliment Government efforts at all levels and educate Nigerians on the need to adopt stringent measures to curtail and prevent the spread of deadly COVID-19. The Warri Office of CEPEJ visited various Communities, Health Centers and Markets to sensitize the people on the importance of personal hygiene, social distancing and the need to seek proper medical care if they have symptoms of fever, coughing and difficulty in breathing.
The communities were instructed by CEPEJ medical team to always follow the directive of the Federal Government, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information, Delta State Government and Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on protecting themselves from contracting and spreading the virus by regularly washing their hands for at least twenty seconds with soap and running water, cough and sneeze into tissue or their sleeves.
They were also advised to regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched and used objects and surfaces, avoid or limit handshake, hugging, touching of eyes, nose or mouth.
On social distancing and symptoms of sickness they were told to avoid crowded gatherings, keep a distance of two meters with others, limit contact with sick people, stay at home or seek medical assistance when sick and avoid self medication.
CEPEJ also distributed and donated hand-wash buckets, soaps, hand sanitizers, disinfectants, hand gloves, nose masks and instruction guide on good hygiene while sensitizing them on the best practices to stay safe in order to protect themselves, their families and the communities from contracting and spreading of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic in Delta State and Nigeria in general.
The communities, health centre and market visited by the Warri Office of CEPEJ on Wednesday March 25th, 2020 were Osubi community Market and Health Centre and Ugulo community in Okpe LGA of Delta State. The people were very grateful for the display of concern for the health of the communities by CEPEJ.
At the Osubi Health Centre while receiving the donated items the Patron/Director Mrs Ajuzieugo Eseoghene, said that; “We are very grateful for these items donated to us, they will be put to use and all who comes to the Centre will be encouraged to wash their hands frequently”.
In the same vein, residents from Osubi community applauded the kind gesture and initiative of CEPEJ. Traders at the markets hailed the NGO for coming to their rescue.
While receiving the donated items, a renowned Traditional Chief of Okpe Kingdom and Ugolo community, Chief Sdydoff Ememor expressed gladness that the items donated to them by CEPEJ will go a long way, saying that; “Because we have been thinking of getting these items to be placed in strategic places in our community and to instruct our people on how they can stay safe in the method that you people are doing, but things have not been too easy, so we are saying thank you, with this assistance and donations from CEPEJ it truly shows that you people have the interest to support the health of the community”
Others who spoke are the youth leader Mr ThankGod Aduodeh, women leader Madam Lady Emene and leader of thought Mr Kimo Aduodeh of the communities promised to make use of the items and to keep the people safe just as they also expressed similar appreciation by thanking the NGO for the philanthropic gesture and pledged to support the activities of CEPEJ at all times.
While receiving the donated items on behalf of Nigeria Police at Life Camp Division, Abuja FCT, ASP AA Azemba expressed gratitude to CEPEJ for the gesture and promised that the police force will judiciously use them for the betterment and prevention of COVID-19.
The highlight of the sensitization and distribution of the items was the training of the people on how to make use of the donated items and washing of their hands effectively to prevent the virus by CEPEJ team.
