The Representative of the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, on Wednesday 20th May, 2020, inspected the on-going construction of a six (6) classroom block phase 1, at Ogeh Primary School in Kunukunuma Community, Warri South West local Government Area.
According to Dr Bebenimibo, the project was occasioned by the need to renovate the 25 year-old Primary School, which was no longer conducive for pupils to learn.
Speaking on the difficulties in embarking on projects in the riverine area, Dr Bebenimibo said the project was two months old and that the contractor in charge of it was very committed, adding that the nearest place to source materials from, was Warri, about 200 nautical miles from the community.
”The materials are usually transported with barges and tugboats. We promised to do things differently, a decision which influenced our embarking on town hall meetings,” he said.
While thanking the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the project, the Ijaw Representative noted that the completion of the six classroom block will enhance pupils’ learning and boost education in the area.
Addressing the press, Chief Hon. Moses Bebenimibo, Chairman, Kunukunuma Federated Communities, said the project was very timely and beneficial to the people of the area. He thanked DESOPADEC and Governor Okowa, for making it possible for the project to kick off.
The trio of Evangelist Joel Azapere, Pastor Abraham B.A. Tebiano and Engr. Cyril Okorafor, (the site engineer), were unanimous in their submission on the benefits of the project to the community, as pupils will no longer travel to other communities for the essential purpose of getting Primary School Education.
