EDO 2020: AGON THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND INDIRECT PRIMARIES.

The Eighteen Local Government Elected Chairmen, in Edo State, AGON, Says they are in shock to know that the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, supposedly opted to Conduct a Direct Primary to nominate Candidate for the party.
They believed that members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party will not want to be Chronicled as political leaders who were willing to Sacrifice the lives of their members to score political advantage during Elections.
They, however, took a unanimous decision to support the Indirect Primary option as the safest, the most humane and healthy alternative for it Gubernatorial primary Elections
in the state.
Seventeen Chairmen were present yesterday, at the party’s Secretariat with the exception of Oredo Local Government Chairman, who also doubles as the body’s Chairman, Hon Jenkins Evbareke Osunde, was said to be ill, to agree on Common grounds.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairmen, the Chairman, Etsako Central, Comrade Akhigbe Osi, said the decision to address the public that bears the negative Consequences on the lives of the people over the COVID-19 pandemic in their various Constituencies, informed their collective response.
His words; “As Local Government Chairmen and elected Representatives of our people, we have been working very closely to Contain the ravages of COVID-19. We are very aware of the inimical health dangers the virus portends for the people in our Communities.
Continuing, he disclosed that,”if we fail to follow the guidance of health experts, we can’t in good conscience, support a political exercise that will put the health of our people in grave danger”.
He noted that, “EDO State AGON hereby make Clear our resolution that, INDIRECT PRIMARY is the safest option, the most humane and healthy alternative for the APC 2020 Governorship Primaries”.
Recall that, Local Government Party’s Chairmen, Led by Benjamin Oghumu, recently Unanimously converged in Benin City, and agreed on indirect Primaries revolting against the membership stands of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who is believed to be the Choice of the National Chairman of APC.
The Local Government Party’s Chairmen also claimed that, the resolution of the state Executive Committee duly passed on may 22, 2020 was authorized by National Executive be Committee, (NEC), of the Party in August, 2018.
With the lingering internal Political crisis in the Ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state, stakeholders have exhibited Curiosity amidst disunity that have placed question mark on their readiness to confront the challenges ahead of the Gubernatorial election.
