The Delta State House of Assembly, has dismissed a petition forwarded to it by one Mr. Yesufu Alaba of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, College of Education, Warri for lack of Merits.
The dismissal came following a motion raised at Tuesday’s plenary by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tim Ohwofere after the presentation to the House of a 24 page report of the Public Petitions Committee on an alleged unlawful denial of the Petitioner’s 2019 promotion by the Provost of the College, Prof. (Mrs) Mary Edema.
The motion which was unanimously adopted following a voice vote from the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and was seconded by the member representing Warri South 1, Hon. Augustine Uroye.
Following the motion, the House advised the Petitioner to engage the Management of the College in a peaceful dialogue with a view to addressing all outstanding issues with the School Management.
Presenting the 24 page report, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. (Princess) Pat Ajudua said that after careful and strategic examination of the Petition and having engaged all parties involved it concluded that the petitioner was guilty of breaking the rules and does not have any qualified privilege to be granted the relief he sought.
It would be recalled that the petitioner sometime in October last year, forwarded a petition to the House alleging that the Provost of the College of Education, Warri, Prof (Mrs) Mary Edema unlawfully denied him his 2019 promotion.
As a result of the development, he petitioned the House to direct the Provost to release his earned promotion from CONTEDISS 12 to CONTEDISS 13 with arrears with effect from 1st January 2019 as well as stop further oppression, victimisation, humiliation and harassment of his person and threat to his life.
The petition was then, referred to the Public Petitions Committee of the House for consideration in compliance with order V111 Rule 42 (6) of the standing rules of the House.
