Anambra Police Arrest Four Suspects for Burning 74-Year-Old Woman to Death

 

A shocking incident has unfolded in Anambra State, where four suspects have been arrested for allegedly burning a 74-year-old wheelchair-bound woman to death. The suspects, including 21-year-old Chinyere Ekwenugo, were apprehended by police operatives at the Abagana Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred around 9 am on Sunday. During interrogation, Ekwenugo confessed that her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Igwe, who is currently at large, and three others set the victim ablaze. The suspects even procured a casket to bury the victim’s charred remains before the police intervened.²

The three other suspects include Uzochukwu Okeke, 47, Fidel Anayo, 60, and Ikenna Anene, 54, all from Abagana area. Police operatives recovered the burnt remains of the deceased, her wheelchair, and a casket. Efforts are underway to apprehend the main suspect, Ifeanyi Igwe, who is currently on the run.³

The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has called for calm and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident. In a separate development, police operatives arrested a suspected cultist, Maduka Okoye, 25, and recovered three expended cartridges from a shooting scene in Ezichike community, Abagana.
