Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has categorically denied viral rumours claiming he impregnated Big Brother Naija reality star, Nengi Rebecca Hampson.
The allegations, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, suggested that Nengi had recently welcomed a child allegedly fathered by the governor.
Nengi herself took to social media to debunk the rumors, stating, “Let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any governor.” Despite her denial, the rumors continued to gain traction online ².
The Director-General of New Media to the governor, Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, condemned the reports as false and politically motivated.
He described the rumours as a distraction from the governor’s 5th anniversary celebrations and criticized the misuse of social media to propagate falsehoods.
According to Oredipe, “Political enemies of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work again. Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with the governor.”
He emphasized that the governor is a man of honour and dignity, and the rumours are merely an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
