Mother, Three Children Killed in Devastating House Fire

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Saturday, February 8, 2025, when a fire ravaged a home in Gyinyaase, a suburb of the Asokwa Municipality in Ghana’s Ashanti region, claiming the lives of a mother and her three children.

Linda Agyemang, 33, a nurse at Kumasi South Hospital, and her children, aged 7 to 14, were trapped in their three-bedroom apartment and unable to escape the inferno.

Despite attempts by neighbors to rescue them, the family perished in the blaze.

A co-tenant, Owusu George, recounted the horrific scene: “My wife woke me up around 3:30 am to inform me about the fire. I rushed to the scene and heard the children screaming for help. While attempting to break the door, I heard a loud explosion from the kitchen area.”

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 4:30 am, but unfortunately, the victims had already succumbed to the fire. The charred bodies were taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The Ghana National Fire Service has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, with initial suspicions pointing to a possible gas cylinder explosion.
