A Nigerian police officer, identified as Owolabi, has been arraigned in court for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl at the Ogudu Area Command premises in Lagos State.

The incident occurred when the teenage victim visited the station to report her stolen phone. Owolabi allegedly lured her into his office under false pretenses and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility on Tuesday, and the case was adjourned to March 11, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Mrs. Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, Head of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), commended the swift legal action, noting the agency’s commitment to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual violence. She reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance policy toward such crimes, emphasizing that perpetrators will be held accountable.
